Benvenuti a giugno  e l'inverno. Che freddo!!! Però per noi a forum italiano, il mese di giugno é stato un mese favoloso!

La Festa della Repubblica On  June 2nd, Italians everywhere celebrated the birth of the Republic in 1948. After a national referendum, Italians voted to do away with the Monarchy after it had collaborated with the Fascist Regime and replaced it with a democratically  elected President and parliament.

In Melbourne the occasion was marked by a reception organized by the Italian Consulate at the St. Kilda Town Hall and attended by reperesntatives of the Italian community in Melbourne including Forum Italiano as well as other Consulate officials and State Government and parliamentary representatives. The most memorable event of the evening was Ted Baillieu's speech in ITALIAN!! It was humorous, engaging and very entertaining.

The children of Forum italiano celebrated Italy's national day by making the La Pizza Margherita under the watchful eye of the famous forum italiano pizzaiolo 'Araldo Anderlino'. This was the climax of their second term program on Italian food, the geography of la Campania and of course the history of the famous pizza Margherita. We are all very proud of them and their ability to express in Italian what they like and don't to eat, name and ask for a variety of food in Italian and of course, make a pizza including the actual dough.

Special thanks goes to Karen and Ella for their great work with the children this term and to their wonderful parents and grandparents who continue to encourage and support the children.

La Mia Umbria Tour is now in its final stages of completion. Roberta and Laura are currently working on completing the final language programme for our advanced and intermediate students, while the "Vespisti" from Cittá di Castello are busy polishing their classic vespas for "le belle signore australiane"! This year's Umbrian encounter is promising to be an exceptional experience!

The death of Paolo Urbani 20-10-1931 - 17-6-2010 Paolo Urbani, born in Treni, Umbria, was known to Italians as the "Re del Tartufo", died aged 78. Paolo Urbani and his family are one of the world's longest established purveyors of the fresh truffle. His family has been harvesting truffles in Umbria since the 17th century and together with his brother, Bruno, he rebuild and expanded the family truffle business after World War 2 by supplying fresh truffles to high-class restaurants all over the world and by developing a range of truffle products such as truffle oil, butter and flour. His daughter Olga, who is director of international marketing and sales, now heads Urbani Truffles.

All classes finish this term on the week ending the Saturday 18th September.
